GUWAHATI: Shyamal Prasad Saikia has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) by Assam Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria.
The appointment comes under the powers conferred by Section 18 of the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act, 2005, and is in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rules, 2015.
The official notification issued by the Women and Child Development Department of the Assam Government stated that Saikia's appointment is based on the recommendations of the Selection Committee. He will serve as the Chairperson for a tenure of three years or until reaching the age of sixty-five, whichever comes earlier.
As per the rules specified in the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Rules, 2015, the salaries, allowances, and other entitlements of the newly appointed Chairperson will be in line with the prescribed norms. Saikia is expected to assume office in compliance with Rule 3 of the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Rules, 2015.
