Police have apprehended seven suspects linked to the case, including Shyamal Debnath, alleged associate of the main mastermind, Md. Anuwar Uddin, Md. Sakir Alom, Md. Diluwar Hussain, Md. Rushmat Ali, Laxmi Kant Thathera, and Binoy Pathak.
Following the situation, a case was registered at the Azara Police Station on November 22, 2024, based on an FIR filed by Dwipen Medhi of Paneri village in Darrang district. According to the FIR, the wheat was loaded on November 5, 2024, in trucks bearing registration numbers AS 02 DC-0139 and AS 31 C-1038.
Initially parked at a petrol pump in Nagaon due to poor road conditions in Manipur, the trucks later resumed their journey but never reached their destination. Instead, the goods were allegedly stolen by the truck drivers, reportedly with help from other accomplices.
Police have recovered one-half of the stolen goods; around 780 bags of wheat from Kuber Roller Flour Mill in Bokakhat. Additionally, the trucks involved in the theft were seized in Margherita, Tinsukia district.
Authorities are still searching for 3-4 suspects believed to be involved in the crime, while efforts are underway to recover the remaining 780 bags of wheat.
