GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam has uncovered a case of corruption involving Pranita Baishya, a Senior Assistant working in the office of the Sub-Registrar cum Marriage Officer in Boko, Kamrup. The complaint alleges that Baishya demanded a bribe of ₹5,500 from the complainant for processing mutation-related work.
Refusing to succumb to bribery, the complainant sought intervention from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam to take legal action against the accused. In response, a team from the Directorate executed a trap on November 29, 2023, within the office of the Sub-Registrar cum Marriage Officer in Boko.
Baishya was caught red-handed in the act, immediately after accepting ₹4,000 as part of the demanded bribe from the complainant. The tainted bribe money was promptly recovered from her possession and seized in the presence of independent witnesses.
Subsequently, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, arrested Baishya based on substantial evidence against the accused public servant. In connection with the incident, a case has been registered at the ACB Police Station on November 29, 2023, under ACB P.S. Case No. 102/2023, invoking Section 120(B) IPC, read with Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).
