GUWAHATI: As anticipation builds for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day visit to Assam on February 3 and February 4, 2024, security forces have been deployed across Guwahati to ensure a smooth and secure visit.
The city is abuzz with preparations, with barricades set up on several roads and footpaths to ensure a secure and well-organized visit for the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister is expected to arrive at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at 7.30 PM, from where he will proceed to the Koinadhora State Guest House.
A grand lantern lighting ceremony is scheduled to take place today at 6 PM around the Veterinary College Field, Khanapara, as part of the warm welcome planned for the Prime Minister. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that PM Modi will meet the BJP's state core committee tonight to discuss party affairs.
On Sunday, at 11.30 AM, the Prime Minister will address a public meeting at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara, unveiling various state and central projects. Notably, PM Modi will kick-start the second edition of Asom Mala roads, featuring 43 new roads and 38 concrete bridges with a total investment of ₹3,444 crore. He will also lay the foundation stones for the integrated new building of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, Karimganj Medical College and Hospital, and the Unity Mall in Guwahati.
Ahead of the visit, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Assam, had announced specific restrictions on vehicular movement. Commercial goods-carrying vehicles will face restrictions on various key roads, and ASTC Buses/City Buses will be regulated based on the evolving traffic scenario. Emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire tenders will not face any restrictions during the visit.
