Second Medical College In Guwahati To Be Constructed Within 3 Years

GUWAHATI: The construction of a new, and Guwahati’s second medical college, is set to be completed within three years. The construction of the medical college has been awarded to Larsen and Toubro Ltd. on November 30.

A 12 story building of the new medical college will be constructed at the premises of the present Mahendra Mohan Choudhary Hospital (MMCH), facing the Brahmaputra river. The medical college will be constructed at a cost of over Rs 800 crores, which also includes an 800 bedded general hospital at the MMCH.

The project will be a merger of the present MMCH and the Kalapahar TB Hospital campus.

When completed, the new medical college will presumably be the largest medical college in Eastern India.

The Sarabbhati flyover in Guwahati is currently under construction, connecting the Kalapahar Hospital to the Nepali Mandir in Paltanbazar, to reduce the travel time between both wings of the hospitals.
