GUWAHATI: The Supreme Court denied bail to a key figure accused of involvement in a drug syndicate on Friday, December 6, highlighting the severe impact of narcotics on society. In its observations, the Court referenced the popular web series Narcos and Breaking Bad to underline the gravity of the case and the devastating effects of drug syndicates on the country’s youth.

The accused was charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and had sought for bail, arguing that he posed no significant risk to society and that his arrest was unwarranted.
However, a two-judge bench comprising Justice Bela Trivedi and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma dismissed these arguments.
"You must have seen Narcos? Very strong syndicate,” the bench remarked. “Rarely caught. I will tell you another one, Breaking Bad. Must watch. You cannot fight with these people. They are literally killing the youth of this country."
For reference, Narcos depicts the rise and fall of the Medellin cartel, led by drug lord Pablo Escobar, showcasing the cartel's extensive influence and brutal methods. Breaking Bad follows the transformation of Walter White, a chemistry teacher turned methamphetamine kingpin, exemplifying the cunning and dangerous nature of individuals in the drug trade.
