Guwahati: Soon after the complete National Register of Citizens was released, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called a press meet at his residence here on Monday, 30th July.

Speaking to the media, Sarbananda Sonowal assured that the NRC was a transparent and fair process and grievances of all individuals will be addressed to, irrespective of their caste, creed and religion.

"We want everything to happen in a disciplined manner. For that, we’ll require cooperation from all. We have immense faith in Assam’s public and this peaceful completion of complete draft is an example of this faith. I request the media to continue supporting this cause because we all believe that to complete this democratic process the cooperation of all the citizens is must. This is a people’s democracy and so the whole process has to be supported by all,” said Sonowal.

“I believe that from the Government’s side, both from the Centre and State, we have clarified that in coming days we will continue the work under the order and guidance of the Supreme Court of India,”  Sonowal added.

On Mamata Banerjee’s controversial statements the chief minister clarified, “We the people of Assam have been living peacefully in this state for a long time now and after the first draft of NRC we have proven that we can work together. Nobody can malign this understanding by comments or otherwise. We won’t let anyone take away ‘peace’ from Assam. We have such a diverse social fabric with different indigenous tribes and castes living in the state peacefully. We will not let anyone disturb the prevailing peace in Assam. Everyone should understand that the whole work is being done under the instructions of the Supreme Court of India.”

”I strongly believe that the general public will help us in moving ahead and completing this process,” said Sonowal.
