GUWAHATI: A Wildlife Safari and Rescue Centre will soon be established in Namdang Reserved Forest under Dibrugarh Forest Division at an estimated project cost of ₹259 crore for providing rescue and rehabilitation services for the fauna of the region. This was decided during the Assam Cabinet Meeting held on February 10.
As per a post on the X profile of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the centre will have international-standard safaris of herbivores, carnivores and bird aviaries, walking trails and other attractions in a naturalistic setting and a full-fledged veterinary facility catering to the needs of animals and to provide rescue and rehabilitation services.
Further, the proposed centre will showcase the biodiversity from the North East. The facility will hire about 100 skilled and unskilled staff, and additionally will economically impact fives of at least 50,000 people in the vicinity of the proposed site by providing opportunities for employment through the provision of services and goods to visitors, the post stated.
