Riyan Parag Shines As RR Triumph Over RCB In IPL Eliminator

 

GUWAHATI: In a thrilling eliminator clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Riyan Parag continued his impressive run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Parag's crucial knock of 36 runs off 26 balls, featuring two fours and two sixes, came at a strike rate of 138.46. His performance has propelled him to number three in the list of uncapped players with the most runs in a single IPL season.

Throughout the season, Parag has scored 567 runs at an average of 56.70 and a strike rate of 151.60. He has also registered four half-centuries, with his highest score being an unbeaten 84. Parag is currently the third-highest run-scorer of the season.

The record for the most runs by an uncapped batter in a single IPL season is held by RR's Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 625 runs in 14 games during the 2023 season at an average of 48.07 and a strike rate of 163.61. Australian batter Shaun Marsh is second on the list with 616 runs in 11 matches during the 2008 season at an average of 68.44 and a strike rate of 139.68.

Parag also holds the distinction of scoring the third-most runs for the Royals in a single season. The highest runs in a single season by an RR batter were scored by Jos Buttler in the 2022 season, with 863 runs in 17 games. Jaiswal follows with his 625 runs in 2023.

Additionally, Parag has the second-most runs by a batter batting at number four or below in a single IPL season. The top spot belongs to Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant, who scored 579 runs in the 2018 season while batting in the middle order.

In the match, RR won the toss and elected to bowl first. RCB posted a total of 172/8 in their 20 overs, with Rajat Patidar, Virat Kohli, and Mahipal Lomror emerging as the top-scorers. Avesh Khan was the standout bowler for RR, supported by fine performances from Ravichandran Ashwin and Trent Boult.

During the run chase, RR got off to a solid start with a 46-run partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tom Kohler-Cadmore. Despite pressure from RCB bowlers, Parag held one end before being dismissed, allowing Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell to secure a four-wicket win for RR with an over to spare. 

Ashwin was named 'Player of the Match' for his outstanding performance. RR will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier Two on May 24 in Chennai to determine who will play against Kolkata Knight Riders in the final on May 26.
