Rhino's Village Stroll Turns To Comic Chase In Sonitpur

GUWAHATI: A rhinocerous casually wandered into a village farm field in Jamuguri, Sonitpur catching the attention of locals and causing havoc on November 23.

In an attempt to play the roles of reluctant wildlife wranglers, villagers embarked on a comical game of rhino-chase, trying to shoo away the unexpected guest. The scenario took an amusing turn as the rhino meandered through the fields, leading the villagers on an impromptu pursuit.

According to information in the media, the forest rangers from Dhekiajuli intervened, firing shots to guide the endangered intruder back to its rightful habitat of Orang National Park.

Netrajyoti Gayan, the ranger in charge, said while talking to the media, "The rhinoceros came yesterday from Orang National Park. This morning, it entered the village. We are trying to control the situation and safely drive it back to the National Park. In the morning, we cannot drive it away forcefully as villagers are using the roads. We will keep it under observation and ensure a safe return to Orang National Park by evening."

Talking to GPlus, a police official from Jamuguri Police Station said, "We received the report yesterday that due to the cutting of the grains in the paddy fields, the rhino was roaming around. There have even been incidents of elephants roaming around in the area. The forest department people were present to control the situation."

Collaborating with local police, the forest rangers aimed to prevent the village from turning into a rhino rodeo. Further details are awaited.
