GUWAHATI: The skeleton of a one-horned rhino was recovered from a dense forest inside Manas National Park in Assam on June 30.

The skeleton remains were found approximately 500 metres inside a dense forest area from Bansbari range in the national park.

Talking to G Plus, Vaibhav C Mathur, Field Director of Manas National Park stated, “We found the bones of the rhino and we sent it for post-mortem but the results remain inconclusive. The horn of the rhino was also nowhere to be found. We checked the area for traces of bullets and ammo using a metal detector but nothing could be recovered. Now, we have asked for the police metal detectors to be sent to recheck the area.”

As per reports, the skeletal remains of the rhino were discovered atop charred soil, indicating that the carcass was possibly incinerated.

Further details are awaited as investigations continue.
