GUWAHATI: Ram Prasad Narzary and Sanjay Basumatary, the two workers from Assam who were recently rescued from a tunnel in Uttarakhand, have been joyously welcomed back to their hometown of Kokrajhar in lower Assam.

The heartening return saw a warm reception, with MLA Lawrence Islari and BTC Executive Member Reorewa Narzari among the well-wishers gathered at their residence in Ramfalbil.

Acknowledging the ordeal faced by the workers, the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) government has not only expressed relief at their safe return but also announced employment opportunities for them. In a gesture of support, the Assam government has extended financial assistance of ₹1 lakh each to Ram Prasad Narzary and Sanjay Basumatary, as per reports.

MLA Islari reportedly emphasised that these initiatives are designed to provide sustainable employment, ensuring that Narzary and Basumatary won't have to seek work elsewhere. The BTR government has also decided to provide them with a mobile tea stall, offering a tangible means of livelihood, reports stated.
