Regional Official Language Conference To Be Held In Guwahati On March 5

GUWAHATI: The Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs, is set to host the Joint Regional Official Language Conference and Award Distribution Ceremony for the East and North-East regions on Wednesday, March 5, at Sonapur in Guwahati.

The announcement was made during a press conference at NABARD Assam Regional Office, Dispur, on Tuesday, March 4, where Meenakshi Jolly, Joint Secretary, Department of Official Language, addressed the media. 
Addressing the media on Tuesday, March 4, Meenakshi Jolly, Joint Secretary, Department of Official Language, highlighted the significance of Hindi as the official language of the Union and the ongoing efforts to promote its use in government transactions.  

“This conference is part of our continued efforts to encourage the progressive use of Hindi while also fostering the growth of Indian languages. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, we are moving towards a self-reliant and developed India,” Jolly stated.  

This event marks the third regional official language conference of the 2024-25 financial year, following similar gatherings in Mysore on January 4 and Jaipur on February 17. It will bring together senior officials from central government offices, banks, and public sector undertakings.  

The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, will be the chief guest, with Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, Assam BJP chief Dilip Saikia, and Member of Parliament Bijuli Kalita Medhi attending as distinguished guests.  

The conference will cover Hindi implementation across ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ classified regions, with a particular focus on the East and North-East regions. Awards will be presented to 48 offices, banks, and undertakings for their exemplary use of Hindi. Additionally, Town Official Language Implementation Committees (TOLICs) will receive the TOLIC Rajbhasha Samman.  

A special edition of Rajbhasha Bharti, the departmental magazine, will be released at the event, along with the alpha version of the multilingual translation software ‘Kanthastha (3.0)’.
