Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus, Tata Group In Critical Condition: Reports

GUWAHATI: Ratan Tata, the chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, is  reported to be in critical condition and admitted in intensive care unit of a Mumbai hospital.

Tata had on earlier on Monday  assured the public that his hospital stay was part of a routine medical check-up tied to his age and related health conditions.

Tata became chairman of the Tata Group in 1991. Under his leadership, the company grew into a global business empire worth over $100 billion. In December 2012, he retired from his position and was succeeded by Cyrus Mistry, who passed away in a car accident in 2022.

After retirement, Tata assumed the title of chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, Tata Industries, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, and Tata Chemicals. He is also on the international advisory boards of Mitsubishi Corporation and JP Morgan Chase and continues to lead the group’s charitable trusts.

During his tenure as chairman, the Tata Group expanded globally, acquiring major companies such as Tetley, Corus, and Jaguar Land Rover, transforming Tata from a largely domestic firm into a global powerhouse.

Under Tata's leadership, the group launched the Tata Nano, the world's cheapest car, and expanded its software services arm, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), into a global IT leader.
