Ranveer Allahbadia Moves SC Over Multiple FIRs For Obscene Statement

GUWAHATI: YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, approached the Supreme Court on Friday, February 14, seeking relief against multiple FIRs lodged in various states over alleged obscenity in statements made during India's Got Latent show.

Senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud mentioned the matter before Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, stating that the petition had been filed under Article 32 of the Constitution. However, CJI Khanna maintained that a listing date had already been assigned and declined to entertain an oral mentioning.

Despite Chandrachud expressing concerns about possible coercive action by the Assam Police, the CJI reiterated that oral mentions were not permitted and confirmed that the case would proceed as scheduled.

The controversy stems from statements made by Allahbadia during the show, which sparked widespread outrage on social media. FIRs have been registered by both the Maharashtra and Assam Police. Following the backlash, Allahbadia issued a public apology, acknowledging the inappropriate nature of his remarks.

In response to the controversy, the Centre ordered the removal of the contentious episode from YouTube on Tuesday, February 11.

The incident comes in stark contrast to Allahbadia’s recent recognition, as he was awarded the Disruptor of the Year at the National Creators Award in 2024 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
