Ranking System In HS and HSLC Exams To Be Abolished In Assam

GUWAHATI: During the fourth day of the Budget Session at the Assam Legislative Assembly, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced today that the ranking system in both the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination and Higher Secondary (HS) Examination will be abolished starting from the upcoming academic year.

Minister Pegu emphasized that the current ranking system holds little practical value in terms of employment opportunities, he said, "The ranking system in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary (HS) examinations is irrelevant," pointing out that having a certificate of rank doesn't actually land anyone a job anywhere.

He also added while the ranking system holds social recognition in the state, it lacks acknowledgment from the government and isn't technically recognized by any institute worldwide.

Minister Pegu questioned the utility of a system that lacks official recognition, stating, "So what's the use of it which is not officially recognized?"
