GUWAHATI: Justice Ranjan Gogoi is all set to take over as Chief Justice of India.

Justice Gogoi will be sworn in by President Ram Nath Kovind as the 46th Chief Justice of India. His tenure will end November next year.

Gogoi will be the first Chief Justice of India from the north-east.

The appointment came nearly a week after his predecessor Dipak Misra wrote to the government recommending him as his successor.

According to age-old conventions, the outgoing CJI recommends the name of the second senior-most judge of the Supreme Court as his successor. And, Justice Ranjan Gogoi by virtue of his seniority is the next in line.
