GUWAHATI: The photograph of a young Riyan Parag with the former Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni shared by Rajasthan Royals on their social media platform has gone viral.

Riyan's path crossed with that of his childhood idol Dhoni in 2007, during an electrifying India-Pakistan match in Guwahati. The wide-eyed five or six-year-old Riyan met his hero Dhoni, but what followed was something no one could predict.
Twelve years later, Riyan, now a crucial member of the Rajasthan Royals, faced his idol in 2019 in a match against Chennai Super Kings.

Despite the initial awe-inspiring moment, Riyan displayed his mettle on the field, showcasing his batting prowess and leg-spin skills. However, fate had its twists, as Riyan faced the wicketkeeper-batsman's might and was eventually caught out after scoring 16 runs. Despite the outcome, the match marked a significant milestone in Riyan's journey, as he once again shared the field with his childhood inspiration.
Born on November 10, 2001, in Assam, Riyan hails from a lineage of sporting excellence. His father, Parag Das, represented Assam in cricket at the Ranji Trophy level, while his mother, Mithoo Barooah, boasts national swimming records in several events like the Asian Championships and SAF Games.
Riyan overhauled his skipper Sanju Samson to enter the top-five run-scorers’ list after his 48 against the Punjab Kings on Wednesday. Parag is now the fourth-highest run scorer of the season with 531 runs, which includes four fifties.
