Rainfall Likely To Dampen The Puja Spirit In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: This year, rainfall is likely to play spoilsport during the Durga Puja festivities which are just around the corner.

The meteorological department has predicted that rainfall is likely to occur over the next five days over parts of Assam. Guwahati, too, has been witnessing spurts of rainfall over the past two days.

As per officials in the meteorological department, moderate rains and thundershowers are likely to continue at most places over Assam over the next few days. As per the local forecast for Guwahati and neighbouring areas, generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain/ thundershowers has been predicted with a maximum temperature on Tuesday, October 1 likely to be 31 degrees Celsius.

The authorities also informed that thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Further, heavy to very heavy rainfall has also been predicted at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya.

In the midst of erratic rainfall in Guwahati, Durga Puja committees are facing a tough time to complete the construction of pandals on time as the pace of work has slowed down.
