Rain Spoils Eid-Al-Adha’s Fervour In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Eid-Al-Adha and its festivities are upon the residents of the city but the celebrations have been dampened by the rain on June 29.

Due to the rain, only a few people could read Namaz in the Machkhowa field, Guwahati, which further moved the people to read Namaz inside the Bura Masjid, taking shelter from the downpour.

The mosque is reported to be relatively small, with limited capacity to accommodate a large number of people. Consequently, the prayer was organised in three shifts to ensure that everyone had the opportunity to participate.

The namaz was read from 8 AM to 9 AM wherein the people came in and prayed. The Eidgah was inaccessible because of rain as the area was covered in water, the visitors reported.

Speaking to G Plus, Md Asif Ali, a resident of Machkhowa said, "Due to the rain I missed my morning Namaz."

Eid-ul-Adha, popularly known as Bakrid is one of the two important festivals of Muslims. It recognises Abraham's (Ibrahim's) determination to offer his son Ishmael (Ismail) as a sacrifice on the word of God. The festival is being celebrated in Guwahati with huge fervour and joy.

The yearly Hajj pilgrimage to the sacred city of Mecca is concluded with this feast. This year it is being celebrated on June 29.
