GUWAHATI: The Rabha community in Assam is preparing to initiate a democratic movement, advocating for the inclusion of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Tankeswar Rabha, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Council, addressed the media on Wednesday, expressing concerns about illegal immigration threatening the indigenous population in the Goalpara district.

Rabha urged the BJP-led government to grant Sixth Schedule status before the 2026 Assembly elections, warning that failure to meet this demand could affect the party's prospects in four Assembly constituencies in the region.
A rally will be held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on October 25 to press for the demand.
