PWD Begins Preparatory Work For Construction Of Rukminigaon Flyover In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The construction of a new flyover at Rukminigaon, part of Guwahati's expanding network of elevated roads, is set to begin soon. The Public Works Department (PWD) has commenced preparatory activities, including a pile test, which is expected to be completed within two days.

Speaking to GPlus, a PWD official stated, "We have initiated the preparation, and the piling test will be completed in two days. However, the road will be cleared by August 29. If the test seems to be in our favour, we will start with the construction process soon."

The primary objective of this flyover is to ease the city's traffic congestion and address the persistent issue of artificial flooding. Rukminigaon, a hotspot for severe waterlogging during heavy rain, stands to benefit significantly from this intervention.

However, despite the anticipated relief, local residents remain sceptical about the project's overall effectiveness. Meanwhile, commuters have been urged to cooperate with the ongoing developments.

It is worth noting that a similar flyover near the ABC area, previously announced by the Assam Chief Minister, has seen no further updates since its announcement.
