Speaking at the valedictory session of the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit held in Guwahati, Sarma emphasised the government's commitment to transforming Assam into a hub for cutting-edge healthcare. “We have made it our mission to bring this therapy to Assam,” he stated. “This will be the first step to improving the state’s healthcare system in the public sector.”
Proton Beam Therapy is a high-precision radiation treatment that minimises damage to healthy tissues, making it especially effective for treating tumours in sensitive areas. Once implemented, GMCH will be among the few medical institutions in India offering this technology, benefiting cancer patients from Assam and the entire Northeast.
Sarma, in his speech, also stated that while Assam has always been dependable to India, his vision is to turn the tables around by positioning the state as a leader in healthcare, infrastructure, and industrial development.
The Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit witnessed record-breaking investments, with ₹4.28 lakh crore committed across various sectors. The state also signed over 250 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), including ₹10,921 crore dedicated to Assam’s MSME sector.
