GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation for the construction of an elevated road and a ship repair facility at Pandu Terminal in Guwahati virtually today, January 13.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated MV Ganga Vilas, the longest river cruise in the world, and highlighted the importance of inland waterways by saying “River waterways are the new strength of India.” The PM also inaugurated the Maritime Skill Development Centre in Guwahati.

The Ship Repair facility at the Pandu Terminal is expected to save a lot of time as currently, it takes more than a month for a ship to be transported to the Repair facility in Kolkata and back. It will also result in huge financial savings as the transportation cost of the ship will be saved, while the dedicated road connecting the Pandu Terminal to NH-27 will reportedly enable 24-hour connectivity.
