GUWAHATI: Bandana Kalita, the prime accused in the Guwahati double murder case, appeared before the District & Sessions Judge Court in Kamrup (M) on Tuesday morning.
The case involves the brutal murders of her husband and mother-in-law in Guwahati's Noonmati area.
Bandana Kalita, who was earlier accused of orchestrating the heinous crime, was granted bail by the District & Sessions Judge Court on November 10.
However, the court's decision comes with specific terms and conditions, with the case still pending trial.
Following a hearing for case number 91/23, the Kamrup Metropolitan District and Sessions Judge Court granted bail not only to Bandana Kalita but also to her two alleged accomplices, Dhanti Deka and Arup Deka.
The court has imposed certain restrictions on Bandana, directing her to appear at the Noonmati Police Station two days a week.
Additionally, she is prohibited from leaving her district without prior approval from the court.
Sources report that the Assam police promptly moved a plea challenging the trial court's decision before the Supreme Court of India on Tuesday, contesting the grant of bail to the prime accused and her accomplices.
The family members of the deceased victim, Amarjyoti Dey, who was Bandana's husband, have taken legal action as well. They filed a petition in the District & Sessions Judge Court, Kamrup (M), seeking ownership of the property related to the case.
