GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the world’s largest vaccination drive across the country with the pan Indian roll out of the Covid-19 vaccination.  More than 3 lakh health workers will be vaccinated in the first phase at a total of 3,006 sites across all states and Union Territories.

In the first phase itself, India will be vaccinating 3 crore people and aims to take this number to 30 crores in the second phase. Vaccine recipients will be receiving 2 doses of the vaccine, with a gap of one month in between.

However, PM Modi has requested the people of the country to continue wearing masks and follow the social distancing protocols even after receiving the first dose of the vaccine.

Two vaccines have been approved in India, namely, Serum Institute of India’s 'Covishield,' developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca Plc and Bharat Biotech International’s 'Covaxin,' which it has developed with the Indian Council of Medical Research.
