PM hints at Extension of Lockdown Period in All-Party Conference, to Confer with CMs on 11th April

GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a video conference with floor leaders of all parties, hinted that the Centre may not lift the nationwide lockdown altogether on April 14th. He stressed that, “Lockdown is the only way to save our people.”

Discussing on several key issues related to the novel coronavirus spread he said, “I am regularly talking to CMs, district officials and expert. Nobody is telling me to lift the lockdown. We need strict rules to maintain social distancing. We have to take many unexpected steps too.”

It has to be mentioned that 8 states including UP, Telengana, Maharashtra and Karnataka have asked the Centre to extend the period of lockdown.

“I will talk again to the chief ministers. But as of now, the mood is that lifting of the entire lockdown is not possible,” he added.

Another round of conference will be held by the PM with the CMs on April 11.

The total number of COVID-19 infected cases in India has reached 5,194 and the death toll is at 145.

In Assam the current number of positive cases is 28.

Earlier, state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a press conference, informed that around 74,000 people quarantined in the state will complete their isolation period on 9th April.
