Placement Agency Under Investigation For Human Trafficking Allegations In Assam 

 

GUWAHATI: 18 women from the Barak Valley, who were promised nursing jobs and taken to North India by a placement agency, have returned to Silchar, alleging that they were deceived and trafficked. 

The women, originally hoping for nursing positions, claimed they were instead placed in housekeeping roles.

Talking to GPlus, a senior police official from Cachar said, "Out of 30 girls who went for training, 18 returned and alleged that they were assured jobs in nursing but ended up in housekeeping. During the interrogation, they expressed dissatisfaction with their living conditions. The agency responsible operates under Skill India development." 

Upon contacting the agency, officials denied of any involvement in trafficking. The women, mostly from remote areas, had left for training last month and raised the alarm about trafficking on the day of their return.

"We are currently investigating the matter, and if we uncover any foul play, appropriate actions will be taken," the official further stated.
