GUWAHATI: Parking issues have stalled the completion of the Beltola Weekly Market complex, which was scheduled for completion by 2024. The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) had envisioned transforming the G+6 market into a modern facility, with vending zones on the ground and first two floors and office spaces on the upper levels.

Speaking to GPlus, a senior GMC official said, “Eighty per cent of the market construction is complete and it will be inaugurated soon. However, parking issues remain unresolved due to a house that is yet to be evicted. Once resolved, we will finalise the parking arrangement and start collecting rent for the space.”

Meanwhile, 85 per cent of the Ganeshguri Market redevelopment has been completed, with work progressing steadily.

Addressing the media on January 27, GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania announced a three-day programme from January 30 to February 1 as part of a city-wide cleanliness drive. The programme will also focus on cleaning GMC-operated markets, aiming to improve hygiene standards in public spaces.
