Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, disclosed these figures in a written response to a query. He detailed the annual suicides, reporting 144 cases in 2020, 157 in 2021, 138 in 2022, 157 in 2023, and 134 in 2024.
Data presented by the minister also highlighted that 47,891 personnel have taken voluntary retirement, and 7,664 have resigned over the same five-year period.
Rai explained that while the standard working hours for CAPF personnel are designed as eight-hour shifts, operational demands often require adjustments. Battalion structures are designed to include leave and training reserves to ensure personnel receive adequate rest and time off.
The minister emphasised the government's ongoing efforts to improve working conditions and welfare for personnel. Measures include implementing fair and transparent leave policies and regulating duty hours to provide adequate rest. "Enhancing amenities and welfare for CAPFs, NSG, and AR personnel remains a constant priority for the government," Rai added.
