Over 3 Lakh Bicycles To be Distributed Among Class 9 Students Across Assam

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government is gearing up for a grand ceremonial distribution event to provide free bicycles to students, with participants and attendees from various districts and constituencies. 

The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for this initiative has been laid out, and the event is set to take place on October 13, 2023 which will target students studying in Class-IX for the academic year 2023-2024.

As per the SOP released, out of the total 3,69,454 beneficiaries, this event is expected to have an estimated attendance of around 1,00,000 beneficiaries.

District Commissioners (DCs) are tasked with inviting participants, including Class-VIII students, according to an enclosed list. Funds for food, transportation, and event arrangements will be released from the DCs' bank accounts.

DCs, in collaboration with Inspectors of Schools, will organise the ceremonial bicycle distribution. The remaining bicycles will be distributed at the block level by the School Education Department.

The DCs have also been instructed to invite the Chief Guest, local Members of Parliament (MPs), and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) for the ceremonial function. It has been mandated to ensure that no bicycles are distributed before the ceremonial distribution.
