GUWAHATI: The Assam Police has successfully completed the first phase of Body Mass Index (BMI) testing for its personnel. A total of 70,161 BMI tests were conducted, with 1,748 police personnel identified as obese (with a BMI of 30 or higher), accounting for 2.47 per cent of the force.
In line with this initiative, approved by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, these identified personnel will now undergo comprehensive medical assessments at Government Medical Colleges. These assessments aim to detect any underlying medical conditions and provide the necessary medical and nutritional support.
Taking to Twitter, DGP Singh stated, “Reference BMI tests, the first phase of the exercise is over. Total no of BMI tests done for @assampolice personnel : 70161 No of Obese (30+BMI) Police Personnel: 1748 (2.47%) As approved by Hon @CMOfficeAssam these personnel would now be thoroughly tested at Government Medical Colleges for any underlying medical condition and provided medical and nutritional support and tested again after three months. After a period of three months, these individuals will be retested, with the goal of fostering a healthier and more physically fit Assam Police.
