GUWAHATI: The individual who had issued death threats to Atul Bora, Assam Agriculture and Assam Accord Implementation Minister was arrested on Wednesday night.
The individual has been identified as Nip Pratim Baruah of Gaurisagar, Sivasagar.
As per information provided by Assam DGP, GP Singh on ‘X’, Nip Pratim Baruah was picked up from Bamun Moran Gaon, Gaurisagar for issuing a threat against Atul Bora.
“Sri Nip Pratim Baruah (age-31yrs.), S/O- Sri Haren Baruah, Vill.- Bamun Moran Gaon, PS- Gaurisagar, Dist.- Sivasagar has been picked up for the Facebook post threatening the Hon Minister. The detention is based on substantial evidence,” GP Singh’s post read.
On November 14, a Facebook user commented on the social media post of a Guwahati-based news portal where he allegedly issued a death threat to the Minister. Prompt action was taken almost immediately after the comment and DGP, GP Singh also informed that CID had been directed to initiate the investigation into the matter.
“Reference threat to Hon Minister Sri Atul Bora on a Facebook post, Assam CID has been directed to register a criminal case and take lawful action. No such threat would be acceptable against elected representatives as it threatens the democratic polity,” his post read.
