Oil India Ltd Pipeline Leakage Near Duliajan As Miscreants Sever Valve

GUWAHATI: There has been a report of an Oil India Ltd pipeline burst at Gazal Basti near Duliajan of Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

According to reports, unidentified miscreants on Thursday night reportedly vandalised and damaged the Christmas tree assembly above Oil India Limited's well no. NHK-67, situated in Gazal Basti near Duliajan.

This has resulted in an uncontrolled discharge of fluids, primarily water, from the wellhead. The incident was brought to light at approximately 9:30 PM on Thursday.

While speaking to GPlus, a senior official of Oil India Ltd. (OIL) that an FIR has been registered with the Duliajan Police and the District Administration has also been informed about the incident.

Well no. NHK-67, located within a depleted reservoir in the Bordubi area, had been in a shut-in condition since 2016.

The deliberate tampering of its infrastructure has led to a critical situation that necessitates immediate attention.

OIL's Crisis Management Team (CMT) has been activated, and fire tenders are on-site to mitigate the situation.

Urgent measures are being implemented to secure the well. An on-site task force is in place, working closely with local authorities to control the flow of water and initiate the process of capping and restoring the well.

The Officer-in-Charge of Duliajan Police Station, Bhaskar Saikia, while speaking to GPlus stated that an investigation has been initiated in this regard in order to nab the people responsible.
