GUWAHATI: The Assam government has authorised specific officers to perform functions and duties at Zilla Parishad, Anchalik Panchayat and Gaon Panchayat levels.

The move, approved by the Cabinet on March 1, is expected to ensure seamless functioning of Panchayati Raj institutions.
This authorisation is valid for the duration following the completion of the present term until the next Panchayat elections.

The officers granted such authority will carry out their responsibilities in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Assam Panchayat Act of 1994.
This includes a broad spectrum of functions, ranging from routine administrative tasks to critical activities related to the Central Finance Commission and Assam State Finance Commission.
The following officers have been assigned to respective Panchayati Raj institutions:
Zila Parishad- District Commissioner
Anchalik Panchayat-Chief Executive Officer/ADC/Circle Officer(to be decided by District Commissioner)
Gaon Panchayat-Block Development Officer
