Numaligarh Refinery Authority Begins Technical Inquiry Into Fire Incident At Hydrocracker Unit

 

GUWAHATI: Senior officials of Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) on Tuesday morning started a technical inquiry into the incident of fire at its Hydrocracker unit.

A massive fire erupted at around 7.20 PM on Monday evening at the Hydrocracker unit of Numaligarh Refinery Limited, located at Morangi in Upper Assam’s Golaghat district.

The incident of fire at the refinery was preceded by a loud explosion, though the exact cause of the fire remains unknown.

Sources said the senior officials are now trying to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion, which may have resulted in the ignition of the fire.   

In response to the emergency, the fire and safety department personnel of NRL quickly mobilised and fire tenders were dispatched to the Hydrocracker unit to bring the inferno under control.

Kajal Saikia, General Manager (HR) of NRL informed that no injuries were reported in the incident. However, the damage caused due to the fire has not been estimated as yet.

Senior NRL officials on Monday evening rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.

Madhuchanda Adhikari, the official spokesperson of Numaligarh Refinery Limited said the fire broke out in Vessel VV-4 of the refinery’s Hydrocracker unit.
