GUWAHATI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the rescheduled dates for the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET June 2024). The re-exam will be conducted from August 21 to September 4. In a recent change, the NTA will conduct the UGC NET re-exam in a computer-based test (CBT) format instead of the traditional pen-and-paper method. The June edition, held on June 18, was conducted offline for the first time, but concerns about the integrity of the test led to its cancellation. The Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, confirmed that the question paper had been leaked on the darknet and circulated via the Telegram app.

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) UGC-NET, originally set for June 25 to 27, was postponed due to ‘unavoidable circumstances and logistical issues’. Similarly, the National Common Entrance Test (NCET) for the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme was delayed because of technical problems that prevented the test from starting on time at some centers.

The NEET-PG examination, conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE), has also been postponed due to alleged irregularities in national-level entrance exams. The board president stated that a new date for the NEET-PG exam will be announced next week.
In the meantime, the CBI, which is probing the paper leak, has arrested several persons in this connection. The issue has also witnessed heated exchanges in Parliament.
