Northeast India's Agriculture Sector Shines In 2023

GUWAHATI: The North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Ltd. (NERAMAC) has been a pivotal player in empowering local farmers and producers in 2023.

As a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, NERAMAC procured over 140 metric tonnes of diverse produce in 2023, including pineapple, avocado, black rice, cashew nut, large cardamom, cinnamon, and black pepper, under its umbrella brand “NE Fresh.” The corporation has successfully established market linkages, especially for fresh pineapple and various vegetables, providing a substantial boost to local entrepreneurs and MSMEs associated with NERAMAC.

NERAMAC has a diverse product basket comprising 130+ items in the retail segment, and approximately 30 local entrepreneurs and MSMEs have partnered with NERAMAC for branding and marketing their processed products. These retail products are efficiently marketed through 12 stalls and retail outlets across seven cities and towns, including two One Station One Product (OSOP) stalls at Kamakhya and Dimapur Railway stations.

In a bid to promote and market Geographical Indication (GI) tagged products, NERAMAC introduced the brand “NERAMAC Premium.” The corporation facilitated the user authorisation registration of 1308 farmers for all 13 GI registered agri-horti products.

In parallel efforts, the North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC) completed the plantation of 900 hectares in three districts of Assam, benefitting 750 farmers. NECBDC focused on capacity building, skill up-gradation, and training, conducting 21 training and skilled development programmes, training over 463 individuals in cane and bamboo-related activities.
