NIA Busts Human Trafficking Racket Operational In Assam, Meghalaya; Arrests Six

 

GUWAHATI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday, March 11, arrested six human traffickers and busted a human trafficking racket operating in the border areas of Assam, West Bengal, Meghalaya and other parts of the country, an official statement released by NIA India said. 

The arrested persons have been identified as Kumkum Ahmed Choudhury, Sahalam Laskar, Ahiya Ahmed Choudhury, Bapan Ahmed Choudhury, Jamaluddin Ahmed Choudhury and Wanbiang Suting.

The arrests were followed by searches at multiple locations in Assam, Meghalaya and Karnataka in regards to a human trafficking case in Guwahati.

The NIA said that it seized a large number of incriminating documents, articles and digital services during the searches.

The case is related to the illegal trafficking of Rohingya Muslims into the territory of India to resettle them on the basis of forged identity documents. NIA had registered the case on December 27, 2021.

The mastermind of the racket Kumkum Ahmed Choudhury was operating this illegal trafficking network from Bengaluru, the statement further said.

"Other active members of this racket are spread in various parts of the country," the anti-terrorist agency told ANI.
