GUWAHATI: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu clarified on Twitter on Saturday that the news about the HS Chemistry question paper leak is false. He shared the police enquiry report on his Twitter account.
The clarification comes after the Chandmari Police Station turned in its report on the case.
The State Education Minister posted on Twitter saying, “Soon after the telecast of news item of Chemistry Question Paper leak on 28 February, AHSEC promptly requested police to enquire the matter. Here is the enquiry report that the QP was fake.”
It may be mentioned here that a Guwahati-based news channel aired a news report claiming that the Chemistry question paper was leaked before the commencement of the exam on the same date.
The news was aired based on a complaint filed by a Cotton University student, who produced a handwritten question paper for the channel's news editor.
"An enquiry has been made on the petition submitted by you regarding the telecast of a malicious news item on a particular news channel on an alleged leakage of chemistry question paper, vide Chandmari PS ODE No. 23 dated March 1, 2023. During the enquiry, the news editor of the said news channel was examined, a statement was recorded, copies of connecting documents were collected, and it came to light that the said news article was published on the basis of input received from a student, and the handwritten question paper received was similar to the original official question paper," the report submitted by the Chandmari PS OC stated.

"However, all questions on this paper don't match the original official question paper. The channel published the news only to make the general public aware and also for free and fair examination and to answer enquiry about the alleged leakage of question paper," the report added.
"After taking the statement of the news editor of the said channel, it was learned that one student of Cotton University provided the handwritten question paper to be telecast on the news channel after the conduction of the examination. The student provided the handwritten question paper on February 28 after completion of examination. During enquiry it was found that there is a difference between the handwritten question paper and the official question paper, and also that the said news clip was published after the completion of the exam," the report further stated.
"However, no strong evidence has been found as to whether the question paper had been leaked before the exam. During the enquiry, no cognizance was found about the complaint petition submitted by you against the news channel for the telecast of a malicious news item on the alleged leakage of chemistry question paper before the said exam was held. Therefore, you are requested to taken up the matter before the hon'ble court to cognizance on it," the report added.
It is to be noted that the HS Chemistry examination was held on February 28.
