The transfer comes in the wake of a controversy involving the previous OC, Inspector Bhargav Borbora, who was recently suspended for allegedly assaulting a delivery agent on the streets of Fancy Bazar.

The incident, which sparked public outrage after a video of the assault went viral, prompted immediate action from the Assam Police. Assam Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, announced Borbora’s suspension on Twitter, deeming his behaviour "unacceptable" and confirming a departmental inquiry.

Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Barah further confirmed that Borbora had been relieved of his duties and was closed to the Ordinary Reserve pending a formal investigation.

Manjit Terang’s appointment as the new OC of Panbazar Police Station was part of a broader reshuffling within the Guwahati Police Commissionerate. The reshuffle also saw Inspector Ritujyoti Nath transferred from Jalukbari Police Station to Khetri, while Inspector Kangkan Mahanta was posted as the new OC of Jalukbari.
