New Gas Reservoir Successfully Tested At Assam’s Dirok Field

GUWAHATI: The Dirok Field located in the ON-94/1 block at Margherita, Tinsukia district of Assam, has achieved a major milestone in India's energy sector.
Operated by Hindustan Oil Exploration Company (HOEC) in partnership with Oil India Limited (OIL) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), the field has successfully tested a new reservoir, Sand-9, at well Dirok-1. The flow rate from this new reservoir was recorded at an impressive 6 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.

This accomplishment marks a pivotal moment for the joint venture, which holds HOEC with a 26.88% stake, OIL with 44.09%, and IOCL with 29.03%. Initially explored in November 2000, the Dirok Field has proven its potential with significant gas reserves. Following commercial approval from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, production commenced in August 2017.

Under the ongoing Phase II development, which includes drilling three new wells and laying a 35km pipeline to Duliajan, the field's production capacity is set to increase from 35 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) to 55 mmscfd. This expansion not only enhances local market access but also boosts India's energy infrastructure, aligning with the nation's energy security goals.

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, on Friday, July 18, announced this major milestone that will strengthen India’s energy independence.

The success at Dirok Field underscores the commitment of India's Oil & Gas sector to innovation and sustainable growth, guided by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This achievement not only strengthens domestic production capabilities but also contributes significantly to meeting the country's energy demands.
