GUWAHATI: There have been reports circulating in the media about a case of physical assault by a Republic TV correspondent on a female journalist based in Guwahati.
The female news presenter and journalist had registered a complaint at the Dispur Police station based on which Republic TV’s correspondent Anirudha Bhakat Chutia was detained for over a day and was later let out on December 3.
While the first impression suggests a case of harassment by the accused and the victim is running from pillar to post for justice to no avail, G Plus tries to understand what exactly might have happened. G Plus got in touch with Bhakat and other sources to find out some new developments in the case.

“I am not going to comment on this matter. From my side, I just have to say that I am cooperating with the police investigation. Let the investigation complete and I am confident that I am going to come out clean,” said Bhakat. Speaking about the allegations against him that are serious in nature, Bhakat said, “It is just my bad luck. It is more of an ego thing than what it has been made.”
Interestingly, as per sources there is a counter FIR against the victim for assaulting Bhakat’s mother at Dispur Police Station. The counter FIR argues and tries to find loopholes in the victim’s FIR. Moreover, months before this incident blew up, Anirudha Bhakat had filed a General Diary entry at Dispur Police Station on 5th of May, 2018, stating that he was being blackmailed by the victim and she may implicit him on false cases. It is also mentioned there that the victim had threatened to commit suicide and implicate Anirudha Bhakat on abetment charges.
It seems something has been brewing between the accused and the victim for the past few months and this latest incident is a result of that turmoil and not a one-off thing.
