This move will be effective from the upcoming academic year, as it aims to ease financial pressure on students and their families.
“This year, NCERT has brought in significant efficiency in paper procurement and onboarded printers with advanced machines,” NCERT Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani shared the news during a ceremony for an auditorium at the organisation's headquarters. “We are passing these savings directly to the students.”
From the next academic session, textbooks for grades 9 to 12 will be retailed at 20 per cent lower prices. However, the cost of textbooks for grades 1 to 8 will remain unchanged at ₹65 per copy.
The event also saw the signing of an MoU between NCERT and Flipkart to expand access to textbooks.
