Nation Mourns Loss of Arun Jaitley; Condolences Pour In

GUWAHATI: Following the demise of Arun Jaitley, several senior political leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President and Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah, Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Irani and many more paid tribute to the former finance minister. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter, "With the demise of Arun Jaitley Ji, I have lost a valued friend, whom I have had the honour of knowing for decades. His insight on issues and nuanced understanding of matters had very few parallels. He lived well, leaving us all with innumerable happy memories. We will miss him!"

Other party leaders including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and a few leaders from Congress also sent in their condolences.

Leaders from Assam including Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have also expressed their grief over the passing of Jaitley, who as the then-finance minister contributed immensely to the nation. 

“I have had the privilege of working along with Sri Arun Jaitley in the #GSTCouncil and I must confess he is one of the finest democrats I have ever seen. He would take extra pain to arrive at a consensus after accommodating diverse views,” tweeted Himanta Biswa Sarma. 

Jaitley passed away on Saturday afternoon, August 24 at AIIMS hospital in New Delhi where he was undergoing treatment since August 9. 

The former Finance Minister has shown his brilliance in Indian economy and has put a huge contribution towards the nation.Jaitley has also put his efforts in demonitisation of India. 

Jaitley's last rites will be performed on Sunday, August 25 at Nigambodh Ghat.
