NACO To Commemorate World AIDS Day In Guwahati

 

GUWAHATI: In commemoration of World AIDS Day 2023, the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, is set to organise a National Level event at the Srimanta Sankaradeva International Auditorium in Guwahati on December 1. 

The event, themed 'Let Communities Lead,' aims to raise awareness about AIDS, dispel myths surrounding the disease, and promote community-led initiatives.

Union Minister of State, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, along with Keshab Mahanta, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Assam, will inaugurate the event, which will be attended by people living with HIV (PLHIV) communities, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), development partners, and youth. The event will be attended also by Avinash Joshi, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, Nidhi Kesarwani, Director NACO, and David Bridger, UNAIDS Country Director.

The event will also witness the launch of the flagship report titled 'SANKALAK,' providing comprehensive data-driven progress updates across all components of the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP). Additionally, technical reports on India's HIV estimates for 2022, the National Communication Strategy, and Prevention Progress Update for 2022-23 will be released.

In line with the spirit of community engagement, a blood donation camp and an exhibition on 'World AIDS Day' will be organised as part of the event. These initiatives seek to encourage active participation and foster a collective commitment to combatting the spread of HIV/AIDS.
