Cachar Superintendent of Police (SP) Numal Mahatta stated that the victims, identified as Helina Begum Borbhuyan and her daughter Jannat Arah Begum, were returning to their home after a medical check-up in Silchar. The car was driven by Rais Uddin, Helina's husband, who reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and plunge into the river.

Rais Uddin managed to escape by breaking the window glass, but his wife and daughter remained trapped inside. A rescue operation was immediately launched by police, along with teams from the SDRF and NDRF, assisted by local residents.

Despite extensive efforts through the night, the mother and daughter could not be located initially. As the operation resumed on Wednesday morning, it led to the recovery of the submerged car along with the bodies of Helina and her infant daughter.

Rais Uddin, who sustained injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
