Most institutions in Guwahati to remain closed on Assam bandh

Tuesday, January 8 has been declared as an Assam Bandh. This bandh was called by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) for 11 hours starting from 5 a.m. until 4 p.m. This bandh is in protest against Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s announcement regarding the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

G Plus called up institutions in the city to find out whether they will remain open or closed during the bandh on Tuesday.

Government schools will likely be open as no formal official notice has been provided by the school authorities. However, availability of public transportation will be key for attendance. Private educational institutions such as Sanskriti The Gurukul, Royal Global School and Don Bosco will remain closed tomorrow, including some more private schools in the city. However, some SEBA schools that have examinations going on will remain open. Private colleges and public colleges are most likely to be open as well, because of the ongoing JEE and other examinations until January 15.

Private businesses in most prominent areas of the city will remain closed, whereas government offices will remain open. However, on speaking with government officials, it has been known that they will not be taking their private vehicles to work and will go to the office only if public transportation will be available.
