More than 4000 run in the first City Half Marathon

Guwahati witnessed its first City Half Marathon, the Great North Eastern Run (GNER) on 18th December 2016 organized by a city based running group called Guwahati Runners to promote the unity of the North-East runners. The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Subhash Basumutari, Director-SAI. VIP guests & runners included Ms. Sanjukta Parashar, IPS, GMC Commissioner and Assamese celebrity actor, Nayan Nilim. The Great North Eastern Run saw huge participation in its first edition of more than 5000. The race kick started at 5:30 am from Khanapara in batches with 21 kms category, followed by 10 kms and 5 kms categories. Entire route of the run was managed by NCC cadets. Individuals from different age groups (8-70 years), corporate professionals, government officials and fitness enthusiasts from across the nation participated in the event. Children of 8-12 yrs from Roller Skating Association of Assam also participated along with 10 para-atheletes from Paralympics Association of Assam.   Mr. Lucky Buragohain, Founder of Rough It Out, said “I convey my heartfelt thanks to all the participants and sponsors, IO Plus Salt and Reliance JIO for making the 1st edition of GNER a grand success. Their support motivates us to come back next year with our second edition in an even bigger and better way.
