More than 40 Thousand People in Assam Received Psychological Counseling Amid Pandemic

GUWAHATI: Amid the pandemic situation more than 40,000 people in Assam have received psychological counseling this year.


MONON, a government of Assam initiative in collaboration with the National Health Mission (NHM) to provide psychological support has counseled and treated 42,455 people till date since its inception on 17th June. 406 mental health professionals including a psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, social workers from the government, and private sector, are working relentlessly to provide the necessary support.


Till 1st November, mental health data of 92,819 people were recorded. Of these 54 people are found to have suicidal tendencies.


Of the concerns raised by the people, 2784 people were found to have stress-related to COVID-19. 1745 people were suffering due to 'financial insecurity' and 1525 more due to issues of 'financial assistance'. 


1405 people sought psychological counseling from social stigma. Job loss (1376) lack of food supply (1004), family stressor (856), career issues (647) migration issue (214), and family conflicts (173) are the other concerns that were being counseled.
